Date of Submission: March 03, 2011 Date of Submission: March 03, 2011 Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies & Research Launch of College Magazine Report Symbiosis Institute of Computer Studies & Research Launch of College Magazine Report ACKNOWLEDGEMENT The report on Launch of college Magazine was in itself a learning experience along with a devotional activity which brought forth all the nitty gritty involved in the process. However we would like to sincerely thank our Director Sir Mr.

Lalit Kathpalia for trusting us with this job and giving us necessary permissions for carrying out survey in the college premises. We would like to express our gratitude to Managerial Skills professor Mrs Aparna Khandekar for her sincere devotion towards our progress and her time to time valuable inputs that helped us whenever we felt we had reached the dead end. We would also extend our sincerest thanks to all the students who filled the questionnaire and provided their practical insights without which the completion of the project would have been at stake.

Last but not the least we would like to thank each other for standing by each other and developing an irreversible bonding that helped us to stay afloat during the brainstorming sessions of the report. TABLE OF CONTENTS: * Introduction * Findings * Conclusion * Recommendations * References * Appendices INTRODUCTION: As you know we are planning to launch a new magazine for our college where we will allow our college students and faculties to contribute in terms of their ideas, knowledge and research papers. Therefore this report is in reference to the task assigned to us for the launch of new college magazine.

As the magazine is going to be ‘FOR’ and ‘BY’ the students so we decided to take the students opinion regarding the idea. We wanted to see whether students are as thrilled by the idea of the launch as much as we are about it. For this we took the small survey. We included faculty in this survey to know about their opinions as well. The method which we chose for the survey was Questionnaire. We prepared set of questions both for the students and faculty and asked them to fill it. On the basis of their answers we figured out their areas of interest and their expectations from the magazines.

Considering their suggestions in mind we have come to certain conclusions regarding its articles and design. So we are presenting the results of this creative exploratory to you and expect you to provide any useful insights to us regarding our plans about the upcoming magazine. We have planned magazine to be limited to our college only to make sure that the voice of the magazine remains the voice of SICSR students. It will speak to them in their own lingo and will cover subjects of our own community. We also want to assist student writers within the SICSR region.

All our articles will be written by college students and faculties. We are trying to give students a leg to stand on when they enter the world of journalism. By writing for the magazine they will gain hands-on experience in writing skills. FINDINGS: The survey which we completed prior to launch of college magazine has given us enough confidence to say that the idea of new launch is good enough to make a positive impact in SICSR. The students seemed to be encouraged and enthusiastic regarding the idea of new launch. We found that other than local papers, there really isn’t any print media aimed only at college students.

We felt that by publishing a magazine that is edgy and entertaining and at the same time informative could capture our readers’ attention. We did survey from students to find out what they want to read about in terms of articles. We wanted to design a magazine with the reader in mind keeping students and their interests first. The current affairs and technical category has a lot of longstanding publications. After getting results from surveys, we think there is a need for us to realise the idea. Right now, people are less interested about fiction, non-fiction or poetry consumption.

People are looking for more meaningful experiences while reading. We have to really focus on proper review of articles because it’s less about demographics and more about psychographics. It’s about finding a particular mind set and identifying the lists that will perform in those areas. Frequency of Publication and Size of Magazine It has been observed that most of the students and faculties are interested in keeping it short and frequent. As seen from the survey there is a large number of people who want monthly publications of small size.

Based on the survey, we have decided that the college web site will be carrying a lot of content from the magazine. We’re looking towards building a community for our Web site. Essentially, online audiences have different needs than print audiences. Still it will be a great idea to get it available for online users. Part of our job is to address the needs of our online audiences and let online do its job the best way that it can. CONCLUSION: The survey we completed prior to launch of college magazine has given us enough confidence in the launch of Magazine.

The students seemed to be encouraged and enthusiastic regarding the idea of new launch. We felt that by publishing a magazine that is edgy and entertaining and at the same time informative we would capture our readers’ attention. It will be a good idea to launch a college magazine monthly that will not only include all the events, cultural activities etc. but also equipped with current affairs and technical papers as per the user’s interest. It will also provide a platform for those who are good in writing and have ideas. After getting results from surveys, there’s a need for us to start working on it.

We can now really focus on proper review of articles because it’s less about demographics and more about psychographics. As now we have studied the mindset of the people, we think this is the time for us to realize this idea. RECOMMENDATIONS: The magazine which we are going to launch is currently limited to our college only. We would like to recommend you to expand the magazine beyond our college also by allowing aluminises to contribute in terms of articles and their experiences in the organisation. Doing this, will give students a leg to stand on when they enter the world of working in organisation.

By reading those articles, students will gain the valuable skill set of handling challenges which most of the organisations are facing today. Initially we can also distribute free samples of our college magazine in other campuses of Symbiosis University to promote our college. This will help other college students getting aware of the achievements of the students of our college.
